"FIREFLIES IN THE GARDEN" Discussion thread

I DON'T AGREE! The film won't be a big hit for sure. But the story sounds great. And I'm sure Julia wouldn't just make a movie while she is pregnant just because she's bored or so, so the script and her part must be great!

She doesn't play a 50-year old woman who gets killed straight away. Just wanted to clear that up. She's mostly in flashbacks, and pregnant with one of the kids that are grown when she's killed.

i don't know, the cast (except for reynolds) is solid and it could be a family drama like in the bedroom, which was very good.
the only bad thing to me is that she's not the main character and even in cww she's supporting, so her come back won't be as huge as i wanted it to be.

yeah, I read that in the other thread. But she still gets killed straight away, only to re-appear in flashback. now that is original

I think the film sounds brill and I can see why Julia took the role and the film seems kind of simular to her childhood but insead of the mother dying it was her father and it obvioulsly made Eric, Lisa and jules stroger together, well especailly Lisa and Jules, maby not so much Eric.

If it comes to Berlin, I'm SO crashing on your couch Rico!
I feel this movie could go either way, I'm hoping for "In the bedroom" brill-way.. but you never know.
And no, Julia's not the main character, and I'm not at all surprised. I mean, she WAS pregnant shooting this movie, I'm surprised that she did it at all! And CWW, well, That's gonna be a hit, for sure. And she has a got shot at a supporting nod there, which is probably easier than a leading one for her these days.

even if either film does come to Berlin, it doesn´t mean Julia will show up. She never seems to promote her films abroad, like all the other Hollywood stars do. strange. Especially as her films tend to do a lot better in Europe than in the States. Especially Germany (both Mona Lisa and Closer were bona fide hit movies here, with more than 1 or 1.5 million tickets sold, respectively) anyway, maybe that is the reason why doesn´t do PR here, she doesn´t need it? even more so, as she is only supporting in both films.
anyway, if she does come to Berlin (she came to the Berlin film festival in 1990 "Steel Magnolias" and 1996 "Mary Reilly"), you are more than welcome on my couch, Lisa. only I don´t have a couch. but we ll figure it out

do you ever get the feeling that it is over for Julia in the way that she was Julia Roberts, the biggest movie-star in the world? she was.
it has to do with choice, but maybe not as sooner or later, stars will go and new ones will come. you see, when she comes back, in a film, it s a bit like all right, a film with Julia Roberts in a small role, but do you think a sustantial number of people still gets excited about it? she seems such a thing of the past, people hardly even mention her anymore when they talk of actors and actresses. Right, she doesn t seem to mind but it still saddens me. she should come back with a leading role in something high-profile and see how it goes. if it fails, she can always retire. but doing all this blah supporting stuff makes her seem so irrelevant, like there is nothing about her anymore.
