CNN: How do you feel about Julia Roberts playing you in the movie version of "Eat, Pray, Love," scheduled to come out in late summer?

Gilbert: It's exciting. It's an honor and it is surreal. It's also just as surreal that Javier Bardem is playing my husband. All I can say is that the real Felipe looks about as much like Javier Bardem as I do like Julia Roberts.

This is old news but i just found it:

An Eat, Pray, Love for Men?

She’s had her time in the spotlight. Now, Elizabeth Gilbert’s ex-husband, Michael Cooper, will publish his own account of a personal journey after their divorce. Gilbert’s bestselling Eat, Pray, Love chronicled her soul-searching in Indonesia, India and Italy after they split—but Cooper’s new book is bound to be a big departure. It’s called Displaced, and, according to Publisher’s Weekly, will be a “flip side” of her story, describing his own “search for purpose” on a journey to the Middle East. Displaced will be published by Hyperion in the fall of 2010.

how this movie is received will be interesting.

it was a phenomenon and had a lot of strong reviews. but with anything as big as this was - a lot of people hated it too.

Elizabeth Gilbert just appeared on Oprah's show again yesterday, for her new book "Committed".

This film is soooo going to get oprah's full support, she mentioned Julia already:

They also put the first chapter of "Committed" on the site:

Btw, there must be something like a trailer out, or at least some raw material. There is a German site (insidekino.de) and the website host is a cinema-owner who goes to the yearly Munich convention for cinema-owners. All the major studio present their slate for the year, especially through trailers and some special screenings. And he said that Sony presented some bits of Eat Pray Love. He doesn´t say if he liked it though (he comments on like 100 trailers altogehter). Actually, his colleage says the film looks as trite as the book (which hardly anyone knows in Germany, btw).

well, we all know the book is not exactly profound. It s about one woman and her ideas about life. It s bound to be made fun of in certain (male-dominated) circles. And so will the film

Exactly 1 year ago today, Nikki Finke reported the news about Paramount giving EPL up to Sony, and now it's already in post-production! Time flies...

Franco and I discussed his knack for re-creating historical characters (his breakout James Dean, and Harvey Milk's lover Scott Smith), but Franco still enjoys the originals -- such as his "Eat" character David, one of Julia Roberts' love interests in the film.

"I think this character is something people haven't seen from me before. He's like a yogi hipster that introduces [Julia] to meditation," Franco said.

I doubt that. Like EPL, Julie & Julia was also released by Sony Pictures on August 7 last year. There was only one trailer and it debuted in the mid April.

Expect the champagne to keep flowing. "Committed" hit No. 1 on the New York Times best-seller list in January: "Most importantly, it helped knock Sarah Palin off the No. 1 spot," Gilbert crows. "That was my only motive."

Another reason her profile will rise this year: A movie version of "Eat, Pray, Love" is due in August. The cast includes Javier Bardem as Felipe and Julia Roberts playing the author.

"I have to say out of loyalty to my husband, I do prefer the original over the copy," she says with a giggle. "Javier Bardem is ridiculously attractive. Let's just say my husband looks as much like Javier Bardem as I look like Julia Roberts. They've definitely taken some artistic liberties."

She is still laughing.

"It's totally surreal, the whole thing," she says. "I know I'm incredibly blessed."

This is really a win-win situation for everyone, even her ex lol

Eat Pray Love will have more competition on August 13th

The Expendables (with Sylvester Stallone)
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (with Michael Cera)

and now Drew Barrymore/Justin Long romantic comedy Going the Distance .... weird that two female movies are opening the same date.

And Jennifer Aniston's romantic comedy/drama The Baster will open August 20.

Lots of competition!

Is this because people just don´t see a Julia film as competition anymore?

There are always three or films out on any given weekend. And more and more movies are made each year. They have to be released at some point. I don't think it has to do with Julia directly.

It's just odd two high profile romantic comedies open a week apart from each other now (and then you have Eat Pray Love out too - which may hurt or help it because it is a drama).

It's usually only at Christmas that two romantic comedies get pitted against each other.

I still say a $20 million opening for Eat Pray Love.
